Motion Detection

Record on motion is a useful feature as it avoids recording long periods when nothing happens.
You can configure 3 different motion areas (the example below shows 2 areas only and they are inside the inner red rectangles), each with their own sensitivity setting.  This feature allows some background areas to be ignored such as waving of tree leaves.
Sensitivity defines how sensitive pixel changes are to trigger recording.  For example, if the background light intensity changes only, we may not want it to record and so we set the sensitivity to low.  This may prevent detection of small genuine motions that we want to see however, so correct adjustment for the cameras environment is important.

You can have a mix of calendar based recording and motion based recording.  In the illustration below, the orange bar indicates motion based recording from mid night Sunday to 5am, and the blue bar indicates continuous recording from 5 to 9am.  This can be configured on a per camera basis.

You are also able to configure special recording schedules for one-off days (such as a busy public holiday).
