Business Opportunities of Digital Twin

The term Digital Twin has come up more regularly as time goes by. Is it hyped or serious? Gartner predicted in 2022-08 that Digital Twin of a Customer would take 5 to 10 years to reach the peak of inflated expectations.

What is Digital Twin?

This white paper discusses 3 examples of digital twin, namely, humanized, building, and aviation. The three case studies are not fictitious. It is a matter of time when the cost of producing digital twins is more affordable. The information was first presented in the Facilities Management Association of New Zealand Annual Summit held in Auckland Cordis Hotel on 2022-09-14. More applications will surface beyond the examples.

Humanized Digital Twin

A person may already have a biological twin brother or sister. They can each create a digital twin to expand the family! Whilst the biological twins are known to have many properties in common, we should make the digital twin more capable. We should empower this twin with more knowledge, life experience, higher IQ (intelligence), higher EQ (emotional), and higher SQ (Spiritual) as we like. Talk with this twin and we will be amazed at the twin’s response. This twin can be extremely humble and totally subservient. He or she may mix with bad people and become bad. But the human twin has the overriding power as of 2022.

Digital Twin Building

Software products have already come out for the building design and construction industry for example. The software allows engineers to strengthen and equip the building during the design phase, and the construction company to find optimal ways for the construction processes. In this scenario, the digital twin precedes the birth of its physical twin. When the physical building is built and used, sensors can be installed in the physical building and their readings can be reflected in the digital twin. This arrangement allows the physical building to be maintained or upgraded at a fraction of the cost otherwise.

Aviation Digital Twin

Drones are real and they can carry out dangerous missions in lieu of human. In a combat situation, drones are remotely controlled with facilities created from real life GPS, aerial photos, terrain elevation maps and weather reports. The facilities constitute the digital twin of the war field. The virtual scenario enables the drone controller to fight a real -life war. For sure, a lot of training is needed to build up the competence.
